Early in the 21st century when MobiGlas systems were becoming popular the cost to manufacture them was still high. Rather than pay for them with one lump sum, people would often use payment plans with adjustable interests rates based on the market conditions. Unfortunately during the great depression of the early 21st century, the MobiGlas bubble popped and people were unable to afford their payments. Rather than chasing after people who failed to make their payments, Macinsoft (the big manufacturer of MobiGlas at the time) used secret code developed by the Network Securities Association (and later leaked by the hacker Icecave) to lock the screen while showing an ugly blue color. Thus the birth of the dreaded Blue Screen of Debt.
