Manifesto
But it ain’t all buttons and charts, little albatross. You know what the first rule of flying is? Well, I suppose you do, since you already know what I’m about to say. Love. You can learn all the math in the ‘Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don’t love, she’ll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she’s hurtin’ ‘fore she keens. Makes her a home.
—Captain Malcolm Reynolds
Our Mission is simple:
- To provide the ‘verse with that which it needs.
- To have fun.
- To make money.
- To build a community.
Trading/Smuggling :
Traders and smugglers are the backbone of the Collective. Our mission is the successful trade and processing of goods and materiel throughout the ‘verse. The economy cannot function without the the steady flow of material, so as a trader you will be expected to accept as many trading roles as possible. We only have 2 conditions when accepting missions. The accepted missions “should” be sanctioned by the organization’s charter, and should be conducted with the escort of security forces. Our goal is to make money, not lose it replacing ships. Smugglers will operate in a gray area, taking missions which authorities may frown upon, but potentially reaping even greater rewards.
Security:
D.R.E.A.D plans on instituting the use of 7 pilot squadrons to facilitate the protection of Collective trading, smuggling, and transport vessels. Our security goal is to assign a minimum of 2 escorts per vessel, with a maximum of 6 vessels per team (for insurance reasons). Each squadron will consist of one (1) squadron leader and three (3) fireteam leaders. Each FTL will have one (1) wing man. Security forces will be expected to participate in squadron training. Successful missions will result in pay for your work taken as a cut of the profits from whatever operation is being protected. We know that there may be some missions which are more dangerous than others, and extraordinary acts of bravery will be rewarded justly. Security personnel may also be expected to engage in close quarters combat in the course of protecting Collective assets.
Salvage/mining:
While trade will be the majority of our business, salvaging ships which may have sustained damage in the line of duty, as well as having the capability to mine our own material suitable for sale and trade will be important to the organization. Mining and salvage crews will operate under the full protection of Collective security.
Scouting/Exploration/Information :
We can’t make money if we don’t know where it’s hiding! Scouting and exploration, however, will not be the main focus of the Collective, this does not mean that your services are not valuable. Any successful jobs, discovered material, or the discovery of ore rich asteroids will be repaid with a cut of the profits. Additionally, any valuable information, no matter how it is obtained, brought to the Collective, will be rewarded.
Freelance Work :
Freelance work will not be frowned upon. Freelance work gives a pilot the opportunity to make money on the side that will not be taxed by the organization. As long as charter rules are followed, there will be no penalty for freelance work. Freelancers will have the opportunity to request assistance from the organization at the cost of a 50% assistance fee. Any damages or expenses sustained during personal freelance work will not be covered by the organization. Freelancers will operate outside the typical scope of the Collective and as such may not consistently rely on Collective security for support. At times, Freelancers may undertake “unsanctioned” missions for the betterment of the Collective. While unable to publicly condone such actions, the Collective will offer tacit support in the form of whatever resources may be provided discretely.
Multi-role:
Multi-role personnel will have the opportunity to assist in any activities they can handle. Your ability will not be determined by our qualifications.
In Organization Positions
- Directors positions would require more work than an officer or member, but with greater benefits. This rank includes helping in recruitment, creating and maintaining squadrons, seeking out missions, and participating with the organization.
- Officer positions would give you the opportunity to be in charge of a squadron (of up to six (6) ships). It would be your job to help train and maintain your squadron. This still provides good benefits, include possible refueling and refitting costs!
- Member positions afford you the luxury of knowing that you will be taken care of, but leaves you being called to action when needed. Benefits will not be as grand as officers or Directors, but from which to shy away!
These roles are not set in stone. Our goal is to make Scrooge McDuck levels of credits. If you can help us with that mission, then you will be greatly appreciated!
It is said that as many days as there are in the whole journey, so many are the men and horses that stand along the road, each horse and man at the interval of a day’s journey; and these are stayed neither by snow nor rain nor heat nor darkness from accomplishing their appointed course with all speed.
—Herodotus, Histories (8.98)
Charter
1. Anyone interested in the pursuit of wealth is welcome. We have need of traders, smugglers, miners, “freelancers,” and private security. All have a place within the Collective.
2. The Collective will not provoke other organizations without cause.
3. Attacks on any member of the Collective will be considered an attack on the entire Collective.
4. Any member of the Collective has a right to defend themselves against any aggressor.
5. Diplomacy, in regards to business dealings, will be handled by the executive council, consisting of 5 executive leaders.
6. Large diplomatic decisions, such as decisions of war and large scale conflict will be put to a vote of the Collective’s membership.
7. The Collective will be organized into 5 maniples: Trading, Smuggling, Mining, Security, and Freelancing. Each maniple will be headed by an executive with a seat on the Collective council, beneath each executive, 2 directors will serve as primary lieutenants to each executive and can act as proxies in the event of executive absence. Beyond that, maniple organization will largely be left up to the discretion of the commanding executive.
8. The Collective encourages upward mobility, as our ranks grow, more and more officers, and potentially executives will be needed. The Collective strongly believes that those who succeed in enhancing the Collective’s reputation and wealth deserve to advance upwards in the ranks, no matter how new to the organization they may be. Additionally, no member will be locked into their service area, there is always the option for crossover work or to work within multiple branches of the Collective.
9. Loyalty to the Collective is paramount, discretion is of the utmost importance. Disclosure of Collective business dealings, plans, or strategies to anyone outside the Collective will be viewed as treason, and will result in either demotion or ejection from the Collective based on a vote by the executive council.
10. The Collective is a relatively relaxed organization, but when involved in official Collective activities, the chain of command must be respected.
11. As the Collective expands, we will seek to cooperatively fund and purchase large and expensive ships, pooling our resources to accomplish what we could not individually.
12. Outstanding debts will not be paid by the Organization. This includes skipping squadron 42 to enter the PU. Any owed debts will be paid out of your own pocket. Destruction of Collective owned ships during the commission of unsanctioned operations will result in the value of that ship being recouped from the member.
13. Destroying escape pods of other players will not be tolerated. In return, we expect the lives of our members to be respected as well. Those who choose to destroy Collective escape pods will have a bounty placed upon them.
