History

During the early period of the Christian Church, the spherical view continued to be widely held, with some notable exceptions.⁷⁵ Athenagoras, an eastern Christian writing around the year 175 AD, said that the Earth was spherical.⁷⁶ Methodius (c. 290 AD), an eastern Christian writing against “the theory of the Chaldeans and the Egyptians” said: “Let us first lay bare … the theory of the Chaldeans and the Egyptians. They say that the circumference of the universe is likened to the turnings of a well-rounded globe, the Earth being a central point. They say that since its outline is spherical, … the Earth should be the center of the universe, around which the heaven is whirling.”⁷⁶ Lactantius, a western Christian writer and advisor to the first Christian Roman Emperor, Constantine, writing sometime between 304 and 313 AD, ridiculed the notion of antipodes and the philosophers who fancied that “the universe is round like a ball. They also thought that heaven revolves in accordance with the motion of the heavenly bodies. … For that reason, they constructed brass globes, as though after the figure of the universe.”⁷⁷⁷⁶ Arnobius, another eastern Christian writing sometime around 305 AD, described the round Earth: “In the first place, indeed, the world itself is neither right nor left. It has neither upper nor lower regions, nor front nor back. For whatever is round and bounded on every side by the circumference of a solid sphere, has no beginning or end …”⁷⁶

The influential theologian and philosopher Saint Augustine, one of the four Great Church Fathers of the Western Church, similarly objected to the “fable” of antipodes:⁷⁸

But as to the fable that there are Antipodes, that is to say, men on the opposite side of the Earth, where the sun rises when it sets to us, men who walk with their feet opposite ours that is on no ground credible. And, indeed, it is not affirmed that this has been learned by historical knowledge, but by scientific conjecture, on the ground that the Earth is suspended within the concavity of the sky, and that it has as much room on the one side of it as on the other: hence they say that the part that is beneath must also be inhabited. But they do not remark that, although it be supposed or scientifically demonstrated that the world is of a round and spherical form, yet it does not follow that the other side of the Earth is bare of water; nor even, though it be bare, does it immediately follow that it is peopled. For Scripture, which proves the truth of its historical statements by the accomplishment of its prophecies, gives no false information; and it is too absurd to say, that some men might have taken ship and traversed the whole wide ocean, and crossed from this side of the world to the other, and that thus even the inhabitants of that distant region are descended from that one first man.

Some historians do not view Augustine’s scriptural commentaries as endorsing any particular cosmological model, endorsing instead the view that Augustine shared the common view of his contemporaries that the Earth is spherical, in line with his endorsement of science in De Genesi ad litteram.⁷⁹⁸⁰ C. P. E. Nothaft, responding to writers like Leo Ferrari who described Augustine as endorsing a flat Earth, says that “…other recent writers on the subject treat Augustine’s acceptance of the earth’s spherical shape as a well-established fact”.⁸¹⁸²

Diodorus of Tarsus, a leading figure in the School of Antioch and mentor of John Chrysostom, may have argued for a flat Earth; however, Diodorus’ opinion on the matter is known only from a later criticism.⁸³ Chrysostom, one of the four Great Church Fathers of the Eastern Church and Archbishop of Constantinople, explicitly espoused the idea, based on scripture, that the Earth floats miraculously on the water beneath the firmament.⁸⁴

Christian Topography (547) by the Alexandrian monk Cosmas Indicopleustes, who had traveled as far as Sri Lanka and the source of the Blue Nile, is now widely considered the most valuable geographical document of the early medieval age, although it received relatively little attention from contemporaries. In it, the author repeatedly expounds the doctrine that the universe consists of only two places, the Earth below the firmament and heaven above it. Carefully drawing on arguments from scripture, he describes the Earth as a rectangle, 400 days’ journey long by 200 wide, surrounded by four oceans and enclosed by four massive walls which support the firmament. The spherical Earth theory is contemptuously dismissed as “pagan”.⁸⁵⁸⁶⁸⁷

Severian, Bishop of Gabala (d. 408), wrote that the Earth is flat and the Sun does not pass under it in the night, but “travels through the northern parts as if hidden by a wall”.⁸⁸ Basil of Caesarea (329–379) argued that the matter was theologically irrelevant.

Manifesto

The Flat Earth Org is the oldest continuous Society existing on the world today. It began with the Creation of the Creation. First the water…the face of the deep…without form or limits…just Water. Then the Land sitting in and on the Water, the Water then as now being flat and level, as is the very Nature of Water. There are, of course, mountains and valleys on the Land but since most of the World is Water, we say, “The World is Flat.” Historical accounts and spoken history tell us the Land part may have been square, all in one mass at one time, then as now, the magnetic north being the Center. Vast cataclysmic events and shaking no doubt broke the land apart, divided the Land to be our present continents or islands as they exist today. One thing we know for sure about this world…the known inhabited world is Flat, Level, a Plain World.

We maintain that what is called ‘Science’ today and ‘scientists’ consist of the same old gang of witch doctors, sorcerers, tellers of tales, the ‘Priest-Entertainers’ for the common people. ‘Science’ consists of a weird, way-out occult concoction of jibberish theory-theology…unrelated to the real world of facts, technology and inventions, tall buildings and fast cars, airplanes and other Real and Good things in life; technology is not in any way related to the web of idiotic scientific theory. ALL inventors have been anti-science. The Wright brothers said: “Science theory held us up for years. When we threw out all science, started from experiment and experience, then we invented the airplane.” By the way, airplanes all fly level on this Plane earth.

Our Society of Zetetics have existed for at least 6,000 years, the extent of recorded history. Extensive writing from 1492 b.c. We have been and are the Few, the Elite, the Elect, who use Logic Reason are Rational. Summed up, we are Sane and/ or have Common Sense as contrasted to the “herd” who is unthinking and uncaring. We have absorbed the Universal Zetetic Society of America and Great Britian, ZION U.S.A., the work of Alexander Dowie 1888, Wilber Glen Voliva 1942, Samuel Shenton, Lillian J. Shenton of England 1971. Zetetic: from Zeto, to seek and search out; Prove, as contrasted to theoretic which means to guess, to hope, to suppose, but NOT to ‘prove’. Science ‘proves’ earth a ‘ball’ by ‘scripture’ words. We PROVE earth Flat by experiment, demonstrated and demonstrable. Earth Flat is a Fact, not a ‘theory’!

Our aim is not to ‘disturb the herd’ or wreck the Government, but rather to be an aid to the Elite Human Being in coming to KNOW earth flat…to then FREE his or her mind from such blind unreasoning ‘theory-superstition’ and so go on “to carefully observe…think freely…rediscover forgotten facts and oppose theoretical dogmatic assumptions.” As Sir Fields, owner of newspapers in England, has said about us, “They are the Last pocket of individual Thinkers in English speaking world.”

I sometimes call myself the Last Iconclast. Science is a false religion, the opium of the masses. I myself count it as a beginning of Sanity to confess ‘the creation proves there was a Creator’ so a God or Creator…Exists. From a life-time of study, of seeking out a proving things, from the study of 6,000 years of recorded history, from observation, from experience, from Common Sense Observation, have concluded the 10 Commandments are in fact good Laws of Living and Behavior for oneself and all in contact with you…truley ‘Laws of Physics for Living.’ That is my opinion. The Fact the Earth is Flat is not my opinion, it is a Proved Fact. Also demonstrated Sun and Moon are about 3,000 miles away are both 32 miles across. The Planets are ‘tiny.’ Sun and Moon do Move, earth does NOT move, whirl, spin or gyrate. Australians do NOT hang by their feet under the world…this is a FACT, not a theory! Also a Fact the Spinning, Whirling, Gyrating Ball World Planet, Globe Idea is Entirely 100% now and at all times in the Past, a RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE…a Blind Dogmatic Article of Faith in the Religion for the Blind unreasoning beast of prey. No earthly reason for a Sane, Upright Member of the Elite Elect Humans to subscribe to it. Also a Fact, today the Elite of Earth ALL live on the Flat World. Only the illogical, unreasoning “herd”…prefers the way-out occult weird theology of the old Greek superstitution earth a spinning ball! Both Copernecious and Newton, the inventors of the “modern” superstitions (400 year OLD modern) have said: “It is not possible for a Sane reasonable person to ever really believe these Theories.” Thus sayeth Newton-Copernecious. What sayeth THOU?

Charter

To observe Earth’s curved horizon, one must be at least 10,668 metres (about 35,000 feet) above its surface. Since the technology of ancient cultures was insufficient to allow people to reach such heights, the world around them appeared to be flat and stationary. Their perceptions were further reinforced by the movements of the Sun and the Moon, which appear to rise in the east and set in the west relative to a flat horizon, and of the stars, which appear to rotate in a dome overhead.

Different descriptions of a flat Earth can be found in the annals of ancient civilizations worldwide. For example, ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian records describe the world as a disk in the ocean with the heavens arching above it. An Iraqi tablet dated to 1000 bce shows Babylon at the centre of a flat disk, and the Greek philosopher Anaximander (610–546 bce) perceived Earth as a flat disk perched at the top of a cylinder. In Norse cosmology, Earth’s flat plane is encircled by an ocean, with a world tree or pillar at the centre. In India some sacred texts describe the planet as a series of stacked flat disks, while others describe it as a horizontal wheel set on a vertical axle. In China Earth was described as flat and square into the 17th century, at which time Western science introduced evidence for the planet’s spherical shape (see also spherical Earth).

The Flattening & You

We know a change this big can be intimidating and you may have questions about how V5 will change gameplay, lore, and everyday life in the ‘verse. To that end, please refer to the following potentially commonly posed queries:

Will I fall off the edge of a planet if I get too close?

Yes. Aside from being super accurate, scientifically, we think this has exciting gameplay implications. There might be a valuable item, lucrative mission, or intriguing point of interest out near the edge, but are you brave enough to risk the long fall in its pursuit? It’s what the developers refer to as a “risk/reward” situation, which promises to be very thrilling.

What about water? What happens to water when it reaches the edge of a planet?

Well, while most planets have been designed to alleviate this problem, we are considering adding a “great waterfall to nowhere” flowing mysteriously off the side of Hurston in a patch down the line.

How does atmosphere work on these flat planets?

Somewhat obviously, flat planet atmospheres are contained within magic domes.

How will this affect weather?

All “bad weather” within the domes is caused by stazix clouds, generated by bummer moods and negative vibes. Full systemic gameplay integration is planned for a later patch, but for now, you’ll come across randomly generated stazix clusters that will thoroughly harsh your buzz.

How will this affect gravity?

While we are all well aware that gravity is a lie created by ancient secret societies to control the masses, we are also aware that video games need physics. Therefore, “gravity” within the magic domes will be perceived as “normal”.

If I get to the top of a mountain, or really tall building, can I see all the way to the edge?

This depends on the size of the planet.

What’s underneath the planet? Can we walk on the underside?

If you can find a way to access the underbelly of a planet, traverse it at your own peril. The lizard people that dwell there don’t necessarily suffer visitors gladly. (Full Lizard People functionality to be added in a subsequent patch)

Do planets and moons still orbit?

Planets don’t orbit, they are fixed in place. This is stone cold science fact. So no, no more orbiting.

How will this affect spacetravel?

Spacetravel will of course, no longer be possible, as “outer space” is obviously a fallacy. Landings, however, will be much easier.

How will this impact the current lore?

All previous patches, history, characters, and backstory will be retconned, having existed only as an elaborate fantasy set within a snow globe depicting the Stanton system.
