History

The Grey collective was a direct response to mankind’s failure to regulate itself. The collective follows a strict code of study and discipline to advance their skills and knowledge. By focusing their learning, reasoning and abilities on the Grey all things begin to make sense through the lens of the collective. The First Seeker would often proselytize to bounty hunters waiting for contracts spreading the word of the Grey and encouraging them to become fellow Seekers. “Ever see a Hurston get a bounty? There are worse people out there than the poor souls you’re hunting.”

Establishing a significant presence around Stanton for several years, the First Seeker sought out other free peoples and spread the word of the Grey. Times proved challenging as swarms of bounty hunters and security forces made it difficult to act according to the will of the Grey and not draw unwanted attention. Methods were discovered to minimize these threats through time and study.

The First Seeker purchased Grey Will in the summer of 2948 after having a vision of a world not living in fear of pirates or bound by the UEE which was hardly an improvement over the Messer era. It serves as the flagship of the organization at this time. Though smaller, and much younger than the majority of faith organizations the collective will prosper through sheer determination and perseverance.

Grey Collective Timeline

2943 – The First Seeker is invited aboard a Freelancer owned by a friend. Potential now realized; training begins.
2945 – The horrors of the universe reveal themselves and the First Seeker is nearly killed over a simple misunderstanding with security forces dealing in absolutes. The original Grey Will is destroyed.
2948 – After years of combat simulation and searching for wisdom, the First Seeker appears in Stanton. The new Grey Will is purchased.
2949 – Official founding of The Grey Collective.
2050 – Groundwork and planning begins to build a religious compound and shrine to the Grey.

Path of Grey – 2948 restructuring

Seeker – Anyone who has been welcomed into the Grey. Seekers admit that absolutes are flawed. They seek the wisdom of the Grey.
True Believer – Seekers who have proven themselves true adherents of the Grey are bestowed this rank.
Chosen – True Believers that the Grey has called. These are exemplars of the faith and may become Evangelists if desired.
Grey Disciple – Chosen who have ascended. Disciples are the analog of an officer and may take on all roles.
Collective Will – Disciples able to commune with the Grey and interpret its will. There shall always be 3 members of the Will.
First Seeker – On the death of the First Seeker, the Grey will change hosts and become the new First Seeker. The First Seeker is bound by the divinations of the Collective Will to properly convey the rank as the burden it should be. First Seeker is responsible for the continuation of the search for knowledge and the teachings of the Grey.

Manifesto

Nothing is black and white. There is no good and no evil. There are only shades of Grey. To the uninitiated we are viewed as hypocrites and zealots… do not let the ignorance of others sway your consciousness. Always follow the Grey Values:

- Grey. We are of the Grey, not law or crime. We value life and profit over death and ruin but follow our own code which we deem divine.
- Wisdom. Wealth and Wisdom go hand in hand. Our valuable data maps the collective’s safe zones and harbors allowing for unhindered trade.
- Prosperity. Though the Grey provides all we need the wealth of this world allows us to thrive and spread the truth of the Grey beyond the stars.
- Adherence. All members of the collective are courageous, selfless, and obedient to the will of the collective of which they are part.
- Collectivize. Knowledge should always be shared with the Collective. We succeed together.

The Grey Collective exists as a safe haven for those sharing our belief system. Preferring to stay in the shadows we will emerge strike without mercy should the actions of others deem it necessary. Funding being an necessary evil, the Collective primarily runs shipping and transport operations. As we answer a higher calling and the laws of man do not apply to us we enjoy a limitless trade potential for all manner of goods.

In short, all seekers are in search of the true balance and meaning of the Grey. The personification of choice – freedom – destiny and the antithesis of absolute.

The Future

We mean to establish ourselves in a primary system and secure a permanent place of worship, safe from all threats.
We mean to spread the word of the Grey. Both spoken and by deed.
We mean to inform those that are ignorant of the dangers of absolutes like Law/Chaos Good/Evil

Charter

By joining the Collective you are letting go of your former existence as an individual. No major decision should be taken lightly, and integrating oneself into the Grey is no exception. Your service to the collective is important. Even more important is your journey through the veil of the Grey. All members of the collective are permitted to take sabbaticals from normal duties in the interest of our collective wisdom.

Orders come from the Grey and are intrinsically important to respect and follow without question. The will of the Grey is determined by the entire collective.

Fellow collective members are far more important than other beings. Therefore, it is necessary we do all we can to perpetuate their existence.

All affiliates, while not necessarily seekers, are friends of the collective and will be treated as such. Any grievances will be brought before the collective for adjudication.
