History

Tom Burroughs gave too many years of his life to The Monotony. In 2951, while he was out on a run to Crusader to deliver a package for his employer, Tom heard that his little brother, Jereb, was left to die of hunger and solitude on a moon where he’d been stranded due to a fuel shortage. The company thought it more lucrative to simply hire someone else to complete the mission and didn’t bother to come save him. So he died because it wasn’t financially interesting enough for the company to save him.

On that day, “Ph4n_t0m” was born and Tom decided to embody the Robin Hood ethos—-Rob the Rich, Help the Poor. Using his ex-employer’s company Cutlass, he went after their prized client, and robbed him blind. The money he stole, after paying for repairs, a new custom paint job and fees paid to a hacker in Grim Hex to ‘disappear’ the Cutty from the company’s fleet registry, was left at the foot of the armoured doors of Maria Pure of Heart Hospital in Lorville. A note was attached:

“If one credit of this goes to ANY of the Hurstons, I will destroy this Hospital. This money is to be considered payment for treatments for the most needy who walk or crawl through these doors. Ph4n_t0m”

With each Fat Cat plucked clean, Ph4n_t0m’s reputation grew, and with each Hungry Dog given a bone, he accrued a rag-tag troupe of fellow Hoods. The moniker “The Goodly Highwaymen” emerged among those in favour of the group’s activities, as well as those not wishing to speak ill of them and attract their ire, and the name stuck. Soon it developed its own set of themed terminology:

Haunt —- n. The personal headquarters of each G.H.0.S.T. member. “I’m heading back to my haunt, wanna join?”
Haunt —- v. To linger along a chosen trade route, waiting on the juiciest ships ripe for the picking. “She’s haunting between New Babbage and Hurston”
Spectre —- n. A target, esp. one who doesn’t know they’re dead yet.
Boo —- n. Short for booty – loot lifted from some stinking-rich mark.
Pacman —- n. Reference to a centuries-old game, the nemesis of the video game ghosts. The militia. Bounty hunters. “Pacman’s on my tail!”
Pips —- n. The moolah – aUEC credits. “I ain’t got but a few pips to my name…”
Ecto —- n. Fuel

Stanton underdogs owe a great debt of gratitude for all the help the G.H.0.S.T.s have provided.

Manifesto

Rob the rich.
Help the poor.
Laughing all the way.

Robberies go all-the-more smoothly when your victims are having a good time.

Give ‘em a laugh; take ‘em for all they’ve got!

A jolly saviour will be remembered best and called-upon more often than a grumpy giver.

Make ‘em laugh for better days lay ahead!

Also, we do it in style : “Fashion before Function” if you please…

Charter

The door swings both ways.

All are welcome. But if you don’t like what we do, you don’t have to stay; get it? If you do stay, join-in on the fun and leave no dogs behind.

Have fun!

We’re goodly for a reason. When shipjacking, robbing, or whatever, make it lighthearted and courteous, because we know how dangerous we can be. We only go for NPCs and those who can afford the hit. We help those who can’t afford to take the hit. Griefing, ramming, streamsniping, comm exploit hunting and other killjoy activities are cause for *exile*—-there are other orgs who might tolerate that but it ain’t us!

IRL First, games second

We know how IRL finds its way into play-time. Ph4n_t0m is a 40 year old gamer, and a full-time caregiver. Other members are parents, or have round-the-clock ‘on-call’ jobs. Real Life always comes first and this means inactive players will never be kicked from the org. But we care about our own, so keep us in the loop OK? If there’s reason to worry, let us know; maybe we can help!

That being said, head over to (our Discord) if you wanna say Hi
