SELF was created as a one-man corporation. Eventually this man hired a crew of NPCs. From that moment everything went plural.

We are explorers

Exploration is not a profession; it’s a way of life.
We explore places, ships, behaviors and both sides of the law.

We don’t kill for fun

We take what we need, not what we want.
Ask for help and we will probably help you. But don’t ask us to fix the world or to make it a better place.
Yes, we will attack ships. We will steal the cargo. We need that cargo as much as the former owner did. We don’t do it for fun. We just have to do it.

We are pirates, yet:

We don’t kill or harm just for fun. That’s wasted energy.
We don’t want your tears. Your tears don’t pay our bills.
We don’t seek being criminals. Criminal status is limiting.

We are not the protagonist.

We die as many times as we kill. Maybe more. It’s a hard life. You die and you respawn. You get up and get the job done.
We don’t give our tears. Some people think of tears as of money. We don’t give away money (nor tears).
Cool guys don’t look at explosions. But we do. Explosions are fun. We have fun.
We don’t write History. History is just a bunch of names and dates. We are not names or numbers. We live freely for ourselves. We live to have fun, not to write History books.
We don’t want criminal status. Criminal status seems to want us though. That’s Ok. We clean it and go on with our stuff.
